D[S Lerititcation Requirements for LdIaaa. Lanadian veterinary officials
have informed the FSyS, USUA that after november 1, 1980, they will accept
beef/veal/mutton/lamb/ and goat meat products without special DLS
certification provided the export certificate includes a statement endorsed
Dy an 1PIl veterinarian reading as follows: "All meat products covered by
Lnis certificate nave oeen derived from animals which did not receive OES
ano wnich were slaughtered after November 1, 1980." Meat products derived
from animals which were slaughtered on or before Novemoer 1, 19 U, may be
exported under the DES certification system specified in Section 22.z4(b)
(2) (ii) of the Meat and Poultry Inspection Manual, and MPI Bulletin 79-107.

Possible trade opportunities for seed potatoes. Reduced Polisn exporters
of seed potatoes for tne next 12 months may provide opportunities for U.S.
exporters, especially in exports to Morocco which purchased 2,727 mt in
1978 and 2,Luu mt in 1979. Other normal destinations for Polish seed
potatoes are Italy (1,16U mt in 1978 and 1,Z55 mt in 1979) and
Czechozlovakia (11,0L1 mt in 1978 and 1,13L in 1979) with lesser quantities
to other East Bloc countries.

Japan has announced quotas on imported beef for the secoia nalf of the
Japanese FY 193u ending April, 1981, totaling 62,8UO mt including 55,000 mt
yenf.eral quuta and ?,duu otier quotas. [ne total quota compares with 62,bUU
mt in the second half of tne FY 197a. For tie FY 1980, total chilled and


frozen quotas amount to 130,100 mt compared to FY 1979 total of 127,800
mt. "Other" quotas for FY 1980 second half break down as follows: Hotel
quota 1,500 mt, Okinawa 3,000 mt, School lunch program 1,000 mt, and Boiled
beef 2,300 mt.
