Foreign Trade Developments

EEC Import Licenses for U.S. high quality neef. Of the 3,000 ton EEC
import quota for U.S. high quality beef in the first quarter of 1981,
licenses for 173 metric tons were issued to United kingdom importers, 101
metric tons to Denmark, 62 metric tons to West Germany, 42 metric tons to
Belgium, 20 metric tons to the Netherlands, and 15 metric tons to Greece,
a total of 413 metric tons. Licenses were issued March 2.

Swedish in-store promotions for U.S. foods. Nordiska Kompaniet, a
prestigious store group representing about one-fourth of the Swedish food
market, will be holding in-store promotions for American foods April 21 -
May 10 and September 14 October 4. The department store promotions will
feature U.S. products under the theme "America at NK's." The store group
is interested in "anything new and exciting" and has mentioned snacks,
sauces, beefalo, and ethnic products such as tacos. Especially interested
at this time in receiving brochures with pictures of products and display
materials. Interested firms should contact NK through their Swedish
agents, if they have one, or else directly. Because of the time factor,
firms without Swedish agents will have the best opportunity at the fall

New Zealand Proposal to Set Standards for "Reduced Sugar Jams". The Food
Standards Committee of New Zealand has recognized the need for standards
for Reduced Sugar Jams, which is not included under conventional jam
standards requirements. The Committee has proposed standards for these
jams and invites comments by March 20, 1981. Questions can be referred to

Ocean Liner Cargo Service Directory. A revised edition of the Ocean Liner
Cargo Service Directory has been published and is now available upon
request to the USDA Office of Transportation. It provides a ready
reference of available ocean liner cargo services from U.S. ports to
foreign ports. In addition, it includes maps of each area served and a
