MARKETING OPPORTUNITY FOR FRUITS AND VEGETABLES

The Singapore Fruits and Vegetables Importers and Exporters Association is
sponsoring the FRUIT & GREENS '86 Exhibition, to be held in Singapore October
23-26 this year at the Mandarin Hotel in Singapore. The exhibition is the
first of its kind in the Southeast Asian region and will feature fruit and
vegetables (fresh, dried, preserved, canned) nuts and seeds, juices, natural
products, flowers, and flora."

Singapore's strategic location provides an excellent gateway to the Asian
Pacific region plus the opportunities to penetrate new markets in the region.
Further, its excellent sea port facilities and up-to-date equipment makes it
an ideal transshipment and distribution center.

The South East Asian market for fruits and vegetables is large. In 1983,
Singapore imported $107 million worth of fresh fruit and $50 million worth of
fresh vegetables. In the.same year, Hong Kong imported $168 million worth of
fresh fruit and $96 million worth of vegetables.
