MARKET DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES

FOOD AND AGRIBUSINESS TRADE SHOW AT WORLD'S FAIR

The Louisiana Department of Agriculture is sponsoring a Food and Agri-business trade
show to be held during the 1984 World's Fair in New Orleans from July 30 through
August 3, 1984.

The "Louisiana International Food and Agribusiness Fair" (LIFAF) will be the only
venue for U.S. food and agribusiness organizations at the World's Fair and offers
trade representatives the unusual opportunity to concurrently participate in a trade
show and a World's Fair.

Among others, organizations that have signed up to participate include: vegetable
canners and processors; sweet potato, soybean, oats, seafood, rice, beef and pork
product promotion organizations; pecan sellers and processors; equipment
manufacturers; sauce and speciality food companies; shrimp processing companies; seed
and agri-business supply organizations; both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage
companies; candy and confectionary manufacturers; rice marketing companies; beef and
pork packing plants; crawfish processors; and vegetable oil refiners.

The Louisiana Department of Agriculture, with the assistance of the USDA's Foreign
Agricultural Service (FAS), the Southern U.S. Trade Association (SUSTA) and the U.S.
Department of Commerce will be alerting trade representatives world-wide of this show.

Because of New Orleans' geographic location, and the recent Caribbean Basin
Initiative, a concentrated effort will be placed on notifying trade representatives
in the Caribbean.

For more information about LIFAF, contact Roy Johnson, International Trade Director,
Louisiana Department of Agriculture, P.O. Box 44184, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70804.

AGRO-OHIO "84" SEPTEMBER 11-12, 1984

The exposition is sponsored by the Ohio Department of Development's International
Trade Division, The Mid-America Council on Economic Development, the Ohio Department
of Agriculture, and the Toledo Chamber of Commerce.

Approximately 285 exhibits will display virtually every agricultural medium. This
includes commodities, equipment items, packing and food processes, prototypes of
farming, dairy and livestock production, and technical processes such as embryo
transfers and artificial insemination of superior genetic strains.

Toledo, site of the exposition, is a domestic and international shipping center and
one of the world's largest bulk ports. The city is also served by six of the largest
U.S. railroads.

A complete package of information on specific exhibitions, schedules of events, hotel
reservations, special tours of area agri-businesses, and registration procedures is

CONTACTS FOR U.S. FARM PRODUCTS
A FREE EXPORT PROMOTION TOOL

The tradeletter, CONTACTS for U.S. Farm Products, is an export promotion
service offered FREE by the Foreign Agricultural Service to help American
companies introduce agricultural products to foreign markets. The
CONTACTS provides names and addresses of U.S. suppliers and a brief
description of the agricultural products they offer to potential foreign
buyers.

CONTACTS is designed to help publicize the availability of U.S.
agricultural products and services in foreign markets. The CONTACTS
tradeletter will allow a U.S. supplier to advertise their product or
service in a free 100 word or less trade announcement. The newsletter is
transmitted overseas monthly to our Agricultural Officers where they
distribute it to agricultural importers. In addition, the newsletter is
translated into Japanese, Spanish, French, Italian, and Greek.

If you would like to participate in this program contact the marketing
representative with your State Department of Agriculture, or call (202)
447-7103 for further information on how to participate in the CONTACTS
program. While preference for participation in this program is given to
new-to-market products and new-to-export firms, all firms are invited to
participate.
