Sweden TBT Notification 84.221. The Swedish Ministry of Agriculture and
Environment has announced a proposal (product covered fodder, feeding-stuffs and
other preparations used in animal feeding) of a draft act on fodder and feeding
stuffs. The proposed legislation will introduce general requirements as to the
conditions of fodder. Regarding feed supplements only those approved by the
competent authority may be used. The use of chemotherapeutic preparations with the
aim of promoting the growth of animals will be prohibited. This prohibition will
restrict the use of chemotherapeutics to therapeutic prophylactic purposes only.
Consequently, feed supplements containing chemotherapeutics will be subject to the
provisions of the ordinance on pharmaceutical preparations. The draft act will also
cover cats' and dogs' feed as well as reindeers'. Certain charges relted to the
official supervision of the products in question will be levie., The bbjgctive and
rationale for the proposal is protection for animal life or health. Final date for
comments on the proposal is February 20, 1985.
