Foreign Market Developments.

Notice of Foreign Proposals Concerninng Standards in Agriculture. As required of all
s'ignatories to the GAll Standards Code, the following notific~:at~ions of foreign
proposed standards-related rules have been provided for the information and comment
of interested agencies and firms. The Technical Office invites inquiries from anyone
who believes that any of the proposed regulations notified under this heading could

Japan. The Japan Ministry of Health and Welfare, Environmental Health Bureau,
Veterinary Sanitation Division has proposed the following two amendments to the
enforcement regulations of the Food Sanitation Law:

1) To clarify and simplify the contents of meat products to be declared by a
health certificate; and

2) To add under the category of "Ham and Bacon" non-heated meat products which
are exempted from the requirement of thermal sterilization wi'th regard to the
standards and specifications of meat.
