RE: Ximinez-Fatio House
Dear Norma:

The following statements are not too informative, but I believe they will suf-
fice:
Fireplace in Front Hall

After original construction, this fireplace was rebuilt twice. The original
fireplace was the largest and included the widest opening visible and the
wooden lintel spanning across the top. The sides of the original fireplace
were constructed of coquina blocks. There was probably no mantel in the ori-
ginal design. Two successive fireplaces can be clearly seen, one within the
other. The upper portion of each can be easily identified by the flat iron
bar supporting the brick over the top. The wooden mantel and frontispiece,
now removed, was probably installed when the fireplace was rebuilt for the
first time.
Fireplace in Entertainment Room

The outline of the original fireplace and of a subsequent fireplace built
within the original can be clearly seen. It is very probable that the origi-
nal fireplace was constructed at the same time the fireplace in the front hall
was remodeled for the first time. The frontispiece and mantel of this fire-
place is almost identical to that found in the front hall. It has been re-
moved temporarily to allow further investigation of construction.

Best regards,

Herschel E. Shepard.
