The .Revieend Cutshaw was
called in to question the suspect
after a brother of Knight re-

At the ti~ethehe minister ad-

a peace bond but he failed to
do so, the brother reported.
Jones, in his confession, said
that he and Knight bad threat-

so worried he "decided to kill
him," police said.
He waited for Knight Friday
night outside the food process-

worked and they had a "dis-

Knight attempted to strike him
and he retaliated by choking
his rival. Jones was quoted.
He regretted his sat and was
attempting to drive Knight to a
doctor when he ran out of gas
and filling station attendants
discovered the body, Jones' con-

Poacher Menace
Miniature Deer
Of Florida Keys
United Press Staff Correspondent

TALLABA8EE, Fla., Feb. -
(UP) Florida's miniature key
deer, thought to be the l Ast
American deer seen by white imen.
are threatened with extinction.
The toy-sized animals, which
inhabit the small group of sub-
tropical keys south of the Flori-
da mainland, have decreased so
iapidly in the past decade that
only a few remain.
Although small in size, the deer
1p a hardy species well-suited cu
oUs restricted range and food sup-
ply. If let alone, game experts be-
lieve |t'would increase to a "safe'
200 head in a short time.
The state game and fresh wa-
ter fish commission estimated
that only about 25 to 50 head
have survived the Inroads of ille-
gal shooting.
"They have been hunted,
hounded and driven" to death,
the commission said.
Hunting on the 10,000-acre a-
rea ranged by the small animals
was banned more than a year a-
go. Poachers still have managed
to kill off the key deer.
Actually, the biggest single
threat to the deer, according to
