Library Faculty Assembly Minutes April 15, 2013 Attendance: Smathers – 28 HSCL – 4 Law – 1 Borland – 1 Call to Order: 10:00 AM Minutes from 3/18/13 – Approved with no corrections Assembly Chair Report (Vice Chair Ben Walker for Chair Matthew Loving) Faculty Senate Report o Alert – Florida Senate Bill 904 and related bills concerning assessment of and course credit for online courses, including MOOCs Library Council Report – see notes online for additional information o HathiTrust – UF, FSU, and Miami joining other SUS and SCS to form a consortial membership in Hathi. Spring Faculty Senate Elections Results (Past Chair Naomi Young) – see http://guides.uflib.ufl.edu/LFA for complete results. Notable results: Chelsea Dinsmore, LFA Chair Elect; Rae Jesano and Valrie Minson, UF Faculty Senators; Nancy Schaefer, Jana Ronan, and Betsy Simpson, Career Development Handbook Committee. (NOTE Please use committee email address for contacting committee.) Dean Russell Presentations 2013 14 Budget: provided overview of report given to RCM and other groups. See full budget presentation and report documents at http://ufdc.ufl.edu/IR00001564/00001 and http://ufdc.ufl.edu/IR00001359/00001 Library Construction Update o Overview of ALF/HDSF Construction – reviewed architectural drawings of planned renovation of ALF and construction of HDSF beside it. Construction may begin in July 2014 and will take two years to complete. The completed building will meet Miami Hurricane Standards. The project is currently estimated at a cost of $25 million. Dean Russell also noted that Miami has already contributed funds and volumes for storage at ILF. o Smathers Building (Library East) – asbestos abatement currently underway in former preservation/conservation area on first floor; once completed (est. July 2013) cataloging will move to 1st floor and construction/repurposing of 3rd floor for LAC will begin Adjourned – 10:53 AM
