sHurst on:

Your letter of September 4th addressed to Mliss
~i, with its interesting inztroudotion to your LIFE
OF HEROD THE GREAT has come to my attention. since M6iss
Mayer is no longer associated w-ith our firm. It would
have been answered sooner except that I have just today
returned after an absence from the office.

I am afraid I can lay no claimn on your allegiance
to Barnard (though I came a's close as a male could by
graduating from Columbia). However, I would like to
express strong interest in seeing the manuscript, and I
hope you will be disposed to give us an opportunity to
consider it even though the circumstances are not as you
expected. I may add that to the best of my knowledge,
Mdiss Mayer is not now associated with any publisher.
Sincerely yours,

JSMa:jj
