My dear Constance,
I have just returned from my vacation we got out on the
18th and returned to class on the 4th and found your card waiting for
me. I assure you,it was mighty welcome.
Do you remember how we used to talk of Pannie Hurst? well
I am secretary to her now. Of course she could get a better one,but she
just likes me and so 1 sit up and peck her letters out on the machine.
All thia,of course after school hours.
I suppose you want to know how this little piece of dar-
kish meat feels at Barnard. I am received quite well. In fact I am re-
ceived so well that if someone would come along and try to turn me white
I'd be quite peevish at them.
nere is a twitwr match container of Miss Hurat's. I took
out the remaining matches for fear of fire in the mails. It aws used on
the evening of Dec. 19th by Fannie Hurst, Stefanson(the explorer; thas.
lorris, and myself. Arvin S. Cobb was there but he used another pack~with
Jesse L. Lasky and Margaret Anglin. You can get one of your brothers
to put in another pack of matches-. I just thought you might like a sou-
venir of F.H. since you admire her so much. Her new novel APPASSIONATA
will be out Jan. 23rd.
I am glad that you remembered me.Write me a line sometimes
when you have some moments to kill.
Sincerely and cordially,
