Dear Miss Hurston:
As part of the work for a doctoral degree I am compiling an
anthology of Florida short stories. By that Il mean a col*
section of stories in which the setting is more than incident*
tal: those having some regional flavor, saying something about
Florida, the place and the people and their ways of living.
Would you give me the necessary reference information on any
short story or stories of yours that have such regional flavor
As you know, because of the conditions of publication, short
stories go with the wind and the usual bibliographical indexes
are almost wholly useless in tracing them.
Of course I know of your work 19.the novel and had the pleasure
of adding your SERAPH ON THE SUWkANNEE to our' freshman reading
collection some years ag~o. I am boP~ng you have-some short
stories because so far I have not fohnd oo much of real lit~
erar merit. bBi
Any information that you can give me wigJ- be deeply apprepia~ted.
Ass't. Prof. of English
