The Bureau of the Censum, Department of Commerce, has an-i
nounoed today that the total oater-borne foreign trade of the
United States deolinsd three percent in shipping weight and six
percent in value from 15.6 Umillon long tons valued at $1,329 mil-
lion in .Tne to 15.2 million long tons value at 11,254 million
in July. Combined exports and imports on dry cargo vessels de-
oreased seven percent in both value and shipping weight, while
tanker cargoes increased 14 parent in shipping weight and 20 per-
oent in value.

While water-borne exports declined from 11.1 million long
tons (3972 million) in June to 10.2 million long toan (P908 mil-
lion) in July, vessel impart_ rose from 4.5 million long
tono to 5.0 million long tone in shipping weight, but 'doolined in
value from 53S7 million to 346 million. Exports of merchandise on
dry cargo vesaels dropped 12 percent, in shipping weight from 10.0
million long tons (3940 million) in June to 8.7 million long tons
(3872 million) in July. In contrast, the shipping weight of ex-
ports on tanker vessels roae 19 percent from 1.2 million lang
tons (f3 million) to 1.4 million long tons ($37 million). Im-
ports an dry cargo and on tanker vessels gained 12 percent and 11
percent, respectively, in weitht but declined six percent and in-
aremast 9 percent, respectively, in value.

ASVAU.XC COAST POWS. -Atlantic Coast seaports in July mccou nted
for 57 percent of the shipping weight and 74 percent of the value
of the total water-borne foreign trade of the United States,. or
8,607,000 long tons valued at $923 million. Oils represented a'
9 decrease of one percent in shipping weight and five percent In
value from the June total of 8,686,000 long tons ($970 million).
Exports from Atlantic Comet ports amounted to 4,995,000 long tons ""
(8653 million) in July compared with 5,482,000 long tons (69 ,.
million) in June, a decline of nine percent in shipping weight
and six percent In value. Imports unladen at Atlantic ports
gained by 12 percent .in weight but decreased three paroant i n :
value from 5,225,000 long tons (3277 million) in June to 3,611,000 !
long tons ($270 million) in July.
GULP COAST PMOS.-The water-borne exports and imports of the
Gulf Coast Area decreased six percent in shipping weight and 13
percent in value frame. 2,715,000 net tons (9226 million) in June
S to 2,540,000 not tons (8197 million). In shipping weight adM.*:aa
value exports decreased by nine proernt and 19 percent, zrspeae
tively, while imports increased one percent and 13 percent, f-re.
spesti.vely. July water-borne exports from Gulf Coast ports a- I
mounted to 1,939,000 long tons (8150 million) while imports to-.
tafled 6e.000 long tons (146 million). New Orleans. the leading .
port in the Gulf area, accounted for exports and lmparts totalling : .
776,000 long tons valued at $105 million. .
