TURKEYS RAISED IN 1985 UP 8 PERCENT

Turkeys raised in the United States during 1985, at 185 million, were 8
percent greater than the 171 million raised during 1984, according to the Crop
Reporting Board.

North Carolina ranked first in the number raised with 31.9 million
followed by Minnesota with 30.4 million; California with 20.5 million;
Arkansas with 16.0 million; Virginia with 13.1 million and Missouri with 12.5
million. These States account for over two-thirds of the turkeys produced in
the United States during 1985.

TURKEY GROWERS PLAN 10 PERCENT INCREASE IN 1986

Turkey growers in 20 major producing States intend to raise 197 million
turkeys in 1986, up 10 percent from the 178 million in 1985.

The number of turkeys actually raised in 1986 may vary from
intentions shown in this report depending on feed costs, supply of
eggs, cost of poults, and prices growers received for turkeys during
few months.
