EDITORIALThisSeptembertheCollegewelcomes'manystudents,bothnewandnot-so-new.Formanyofyouthebeginningofthiscollegeyearwillbeanewexperienceandforsome"a'bewilderingone.Perhapsyouareamongthefew(hopefully)whopersonally,wouldratherbesomewhereelse.Othersofyou,Ihope,seethemeritsofagoodeducationandwillstrivetosucceed.Whateveryourreasonforbeinghere,wewishyouasuccessfulandfulfilledcollegelife.Thissummer,whilemanyofyouwerevacationingtheworldover,The,MinistryofEducationhelditsannualTeachers'Conference.OneofthemanymessagesthatwassentouttoTeachersandthegeneralpublic,throughspeechesanddiscussionswastheimportanceofagoodeducationandtheneedforthecurriculumtokeeppacewithdevelopmentsallfieldsofendeavour.Thisisaverytimelyissue,fornolongerarewelivinginasocietywheresocialandvocationalstatusareprimarilyascribed.Today,theworldwidetrendistowardasystemofachievedstatus.Underthissystemofachievedstatusyoucan,intheory,selectyourvocationandsodetermineyourownsocialposition,'regardlessoffamilybackground.Everyonewantstosucceed.Yourtimeincollegeisasteppingstone,sosetyourgoalsandcreatewithinyourselfthatwilltosucceed.Areyoufeelingsomewhatoverwhelmedaboutstartingassignmentswhichyouarebeginningtoreceive?Don'tpanictheLibraryhassomebookswhichcanhelpyougetorganized.Twoexamplesare:LE104972Armstrong,W.andM.Lampe.StudyTactics.Woodbury,N.Y.:Barron's,1983.Thiscomprehensive,yeteasily-readbooktipsontakingnotes,listening,studymethods,readingandwritingskills,usingthelibrary,takingandmuchmore.LE2395p3Pauk,W.HowtoStudyinBostonHoughtonMifflin,1984.Thisisamoredetailedbookandcoverssuchareasasstressandtimemanagement,memorytechniques,readingimprovements,termpapersandpublicspeaking.Askalibrarianforhelpifyoucan'tfindthesebooks.
