ecember 23, 1985

r "ring the week of December 16-20, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's
Agricultural Marketing Service announced 5 commodity purchases totaling
16,605,300 pounds at a cost of $17,336,000.

The purchases were: bulk frozen ground beef, canned luncheon meat; turkey
roasts; pitted dried prunes and shelled English walnuts. This is the first
purchase under the canned luncheon meat program announced November 18.

All purchases were for school lunch and other domestic feeding programs
with the bulk going to the school 1 un c h pro gram.

Offers were invited for: bulk frozen ground beef, canned luncheon meat;
turkey roasts, whole turkey, frozen fried batter/breaded nugget shaped chicken
patties; canned sweet potatoes, and New York State fresh onions. Offers for
shelled almonds were rejected.
