POURED IN PLACE


1. ill to be compacted shall be clean sand free from organic
materials, muck, marl or other deleterious materials with not
more than 10 passing the 200 sieve. Rock washings wilt not
be permited.

1. All organic or other deleterious materials, including all root
mabrial, shall be removed from areas to be covered by footings
or slabs on fill. This work shall be completed before foundation
excavation is begpn.
2. Carry all fotligs to the elevations shown on the drawings.
3. fetings: Sides of footings shall be compacted with an approved
surface compactor.
4. Fill to be compacted shall be placed in layers not to exceed 6 inchi
in thickess. Each layer shall be wetted to approximately optimum
moisture and compacted to a minimum of 965S of maximum density
at Optimum moisture an determined by ASTM D1557-58T, Method "B".

3N: Footing exavatlons shall be approved by the ENGINEER before
placing concrete.
2. Place no fill until It has been approved by the ENGINEER.
3. A laboratory employed by the OWNER shall make such tests a. are
deemed necessary. CONTRACTOR shall notify ENGINEER when
the fill to ready for testing.
4. CONTRACTOR shall schedule the work so as to allow time for this
testing before placing succeeding layers or pouring slabs on fill.

OF WORK


Unless otherwise specified, all materials, workmanship and prac-
tice shall conform to the best practice and recommendations of
the A.C.I. Manual of Concrete Inspection Third Edition.

1. Reinforclna:


laboratory retained by the producer.
b. Materials:
(1) Cement: ASTM C1650-56, Type I, U.S.A. manufacture.
(2) Aggregate: South Florida Building Code.
(3) Water: Potable.
(4) Admixture: Sika Chemical Corporation's PLASTIMENT.
c. Mixing:
(1) lmeral: Ready-Mix conforming to ASTM C 94-55T.
(2) Strength: 3000 psi at 28 days unless otherwise indicated.
(3) Slump: 2 Inches to 3 inches.
(4) Admixture: All 3000 psi concrete shall contain Plastiment.
Quantities and methods shall be as recommended by the
manufacturer.
3. Forms:
a. The Contractor is responsible for all shoring and form support-
ing systems. In no case shall supporting forms or shoring be
removed until members have attained sufficient strength to safe-
ly support their weight and the total load thereon. Slab forms,
beam bottoms and shoring must remain in place a minimum of
72 hours after concrete is placed. When forms are stripped,
the floor must be reabored.
b. Wood forming and shoring: SEE CARPENTRY DIVISION 14.
4. Membrane: Provide 4 mal Vlsqueen Polyethelene film under all slabs
formed on fill, Install as recommended by the manufacturer. Lap 6
inches In the direction of spreading concrete. Take care not to
puncture film. Turn up a double layer of film at all slab edges abut-
ting walls.
5. Accurately place and anchor all Inserts, bolts, sleeves and other
Items required to be set In concrete.
6. Setting Reinforcing: Set all reinforcing steel, mesh, and accessories.
Reinforcing shall be clean, accurately positioned and securely tied in
place. Lap mesh 6 Inches at splices, temperature bars 12 Inches.
All other splices shall be a minimum of 32 diameters.
7. Joint Filler: Premold expansion Joint filler conforming to ASTM
D094-53.
8. Placing Concrete:
a. Forms shall be thoroughly clean and damp before placing concrete.
Runways for transporting concrete shall not rest on the reinforc-
ing steel.
b. No concrete shall be placed under water.
c. Concrete shall be deposited in its final position without segrega-
tion, rehand ng or flowing.
d. Concrete shall be spaded and vibrated with approved mechanical
vibrators to maximum subsidence without segregation. Vibrate
bars to insure bond with concrete.
e. Columns and walls shall settle at least 4 hours before the beam
floor or roof slab supported thereon Is poured. Pour concrete
walls in lifts not to exceed 4 feet.
f. Where possible, pours shall be continuous except where Joints
are shown on the plans. Joints not shown will not be permitted
uleu approved by the ENGINEER. Before pouring concrete
adjoining construction Joints, the surface of the Joint already
poured shall be roughened, cleaned, wet and given a heavy
coat of eat cement grout.
I. Where cestructom joints are indicated in slabs on fill, the con-
crete shall be poured to screeds. Stop mesh at the Joint. Re-
move the vertical screed and pour adjacent areas not less than
24 hours later.
h. All bhoeycomb ahall be repaired by the GUNITE method at the
the direction f the ENGINEER.
I. Provide 3/4 inch chambers on edges of all columns aad beam
sffts, except when such edges abut masonry.
9. Fnislbing Concrete:
a. Exposed concrete other than floor and roof slabs: Immediately
after removing forms, out off all metal form ties at least 3/4"
back from the surface of the oncrete. Wet and fill all boles
and voids with cement mortar (1:2 mix). Color of mortar shall
match concrete to which It Is applied.
b. Floor sad Roof Slabs:
General: Walt until water ha disappeared and concrete stiffen-
ed to prevent churning up. Mop up all water pudles. Use flot-
ing and finishing machines. Do 4et sprinkle water or dust dry
cement on surface to facilitate finishing. Steel trowel only after
concrete has set so It rings and dees not stck to trowml.
c. A.C. Iorm's HIONCURE, or equal, shall be applied to all floor
areas indicated to be exposed cement finish mad to all roof areas.
d. All exterior concrete finish floors, steps and walks shall be a
two hand steel trowel finish with non-slip aggregate ALUNDUM
(eare sire) a manudactured by the Norton Company and i
accordance with their specfilcatlun "A".
10. Inspection:
a. The Contrsctor shall notify the ENGINEER and the laboratory
employed by the OWNER at leaout 24 hours before each pour.
b. No concrete shall be poured until formwork and reinforcing for
te entire Portion to be poured that day hua been inspected and

11. Testing and Control:
A laboratory employed by the OWNER shall nmake and test at least
five cylinders for each 60 yards, or fraction thereof, poured. Ous
test shall be made at 3 and 7 days, and 3 at 28 days.

PRECAST CONCRETE DIVISION 4

1. Furnish and erect all precasut concrete units.


1. Cement shall be of domestic manufacture conforming to ASTM C- 18-
56, Type 1, U.S.A. manufacture, trinity white.
2. Aggregate: South Florida Building Code, and white marble aad

3. Water shall be potable.
4. Reinforcing steel shall conform to ASTM A15-64T a noted on drawings.
5. All metal Inserts, accessories, etc.
6. Formsa shall be of wood construction treated and filled to produce an
unblemished surface.

K 1. Sizes, profiles, finish, Inserts, etc., shall be strictly In accord-
ance with the drawings, these specifications and a. approved by
the ARCHITECT. Prior to transporting, steam clean (remove all
form oil). Dress or resurfaces oat concrete.
2. Treat exterior surface with 1 coat Dehydratine No. 22, A. C. Horn.
3. When precast units are In place, patch all chipped corners, etc., grout
holes and cracks so that the exposed surfaces and corners are smooth
and true, matching original finish.

MASONRY DIVISION 5

1. ftrnish all masonry materials.
2. Frnisah all labor, materials, equipment and appliances to complete
masonry work.


. Concrete Masonry Units: 8 Inch, conforming to ASTM C 9-62, Grade A.
2. Mortar Materials: ASTM C 270-57T except tt aggregates meeting the
requirements of the Snith florida Building Code are acceptable. Masory
cement shall meet the requirements of ASTM C9157, Type II and shall be
of U.S.A. manufacture.
3. Joint Reinforcement: Standard Dur-O-Wal galvanizedwall reinforcement.

1. General: Erect all masonry, including IbUlding into masonry, all bolts,
anchors, inserts, onduIts and other items furnished by others but re-
quired to be set to the masonry and provide all opening required by
other trades. Pour columns and beams to block. Square end blocks
shall not be used abutting concrete columns.
2. Storage of Materials: All materials shall be stored under cover In a dry
pIace.


MATERIALS

EXECUTION
OF WORK


1. Structural Steel: ASTM A-7.

1. Welding: AWS recommendations and done by laboratory certified
welders.
2. Fabrication and Erection: AISC Specifications for Fabrication and
Erection.
3. All pipe columns shall be concrete filled.


1. GRADING AND CLEARING:
This Contractor shall remove all trees and vegetation from this property, including
any root system to a depth of four feet.
2. SUBGRADE:
The bottom of the excavation or fill for the paved area shall be compacted and leveled
to a surface of uniform density, stabilized with material acceptable to the Architect,
as a binder, that will give a bearing strength of not less than fifteen (15) pounds per
square Inch by repeated water sprinkling and rolling with an approved 3-wheel 10-ton
roller or hand-tamped mechanically where required. Reshape to grade after com-
paction.
3. ROCK BASE COURSE:
5" clean Miami oolite lime rock constructed on prepared subgrade in one course con-
forming to required lines and grades, rock shall be spread uniformly and rolled until
the entire depth of base ia compacted Into a dense unyielding mass. After rolling,
the entire surface shall be thoroughly scarified and shaped to proper section with a
road machine; then watered and again rolled, rolling and watering shall continue until
the entire base is bonded and compacted, true to grade and section.
4. SURFACING:
After the base Is cured and dry, sweep all dust aad loose material from the surface.
The base shall be primed with R. C. Asphalt at 10 gallons/yard. After priming, a
one-Inch compacted wearing course of hot asphalt concrete as specified in Section 129,
Florida State Road Department, Spec. for Road and Bridge Construction (April 1,
1947) with the additional provision that all aggregate shall pass a #4 screen and have a
penetration 70-85.

ROOFING AND ROOF FLASI4NG DIVBION 9

1. BUILT-UP ROOFING AND ROOF FLASHING:
a. Roofing and all flashing shall be twenty (20) year bondable type.
b. Gravel shall be Chattahohee River Gravel in sizes to conform to the Barrett
pecification.
c. All workmanship ad method of application of roofing material and flashing shall
cofortm to Barrett Speoifications for a 20 year bondable Barrett roof for use over
concrete deck.
d. Material shall be mre# a spetfied by Barrett Twenty (20) year coal tar pitch
bandable roof for ue over concrete.
e. All meal flashig to include all walls, stops (see special detail up rakes, where
ppes pass through reds, ad all other metal flashing ot heretofore mentioned
shall be 20 ounce oornmie copper, all designed and fastened in place according to
plans, spelflciations and recommendtion of the m facturer whose roofing
material Is used and in accord with the drawing and details where weight of metal
Is indicated.
f. All Joints on flashing shall be soldered watertight with solder providing a
lapped plastic filled expansi Joint every 24'.

h. NOTE: Any rooer otracter that can furnish a 20-year bond on roofing ad

Owner. Bond must declare that the roof and flashing will be kept in a watertight
condition for the period of the bond, including all cost of labor and material.

Prior to beginning work a letter from the Manufactrer whose rooting materials
the Contractor prupoees to me shall be furnished to the Architect which states
that the MaactE er agrees te the following:
(1) Furnish a twenty-year bond declaring that the ref and roofflashing will be
kept in a watertight condition for the period of the bond ncludig all cost of
labor aad materials.
(2) The resposibullty of te maufacrer of roofing material used I nat limit-
ed to the amount of m ey set forth i the bd but that said ma-nractuIer
will assume such responsibility as necessary to keep reef and flashig
In a watertight condition for period of the bond.

1. MATERIALS:

2. SCOPE OF WORK:

3. SETTING:

practice of the Tile Iutry pulished by Tile Ciou l of America, hIc. Work shall be
carefully laid ret to enter the tile to avoid small uads.
4. CLEANmI AND PROTECTING:
Tle floors and walls shall be left olean after granting aad protected with a suitable oover-
ing paper before other trades shall have access to the rnms.

MARBLE DrVION 11
1. MATERIALS:


a. Reuma Travertine 3/4" (modular wall sizes are 2'x4', floor sizes are 2'x2' except
for t few special conditions required by Plwas). "Moet Merao" is approved,
however ether samples may be submitted.
b. "Stowe set" Mortar Mix.
c. #0 soft d1m awcopper anchor wire.
2. SCOPE OF WORK:
Furnish all labor and materials, any and all items of service required to properly install
as in aIn dancecn with plans and specifications d aa n schedules.
3. SETTING:
a. All materials and workaip shall be n accordance with the current accepted
standard practice of the Marble dety.
b. Jointing general hall be u show on Architect's Drawings unless shop drawings
with champs of joating approved. Joints shall have loee cotact for L l thick-
ess of the marble. Joints hall be 1/8" wide, raked 3/16" deep and shall be plumb,
square, true and dressed tea dewe fit with Bthededes smooth. Cutting fork of
other trades, for hardware, for aceessorles, etc., shall be neatly done, accuratebly
out to te correct sizes as reqred.
c. Use two concealed anchors each side of each slab (6" down from top and 6" up from
bottom).
d. 3/8" to 1/" (Parge) grout trowelled on back of each slab to insure complete bond.
4. FINIES:
All exterior flooring and exterior walls shall have a boled finish. All interior floors shall
have a filled (grey portland cement) homed and polished finish. All interior walls shall
have a booed and polished finish.
S. PROTECTION:
After erection, protect marble surfaces with a non-staining, easily remnvable material.
