CL U B 450 SIXTH AVENUE, NEW YORK, N. Y.
April 25, 1955.
We are having a symposium on"Qontemporary Poets and
Poetry" at the John Reed ClubrQom on May .th (Sunday afternoon) at
2:50 P. M. We would like very much for you to participate in this
symposium in which Isadore Schneider and Ben Maddox have already
consented to take part. I remember your excellent discussion at
the symposium on poetry last year, and I hope you will consent to
join in the symposium this year also, especially since you have
recently brought out your new book of poetry. We have used the
broad title to permit the widest latitude in the discussion of
a subject which might take many directions. Our main purpose is
of course to determine the function of poetry in contemporary
society, especially as it effects class issues.
Will you please let me know on the enclosed card
that you will be present, that we might begin publicity on the
meeting as soon as possible.
