Last year Dr. Manning Dauer retired from the
political science faculty of the University of
Florida.after a long and distinguished career.
During that time he was an important influence on
several generations of Florida politicians and
political thinkers. As a former student of
Manning's, I agreed to chair--a fund-raising-effort
to endow a visiting lecture series at the Univer-
sity in his honor. The purpose of this letter is
to ask you to consider contributing to this effort.
The visiting lecture series would bring outstanding
academicians to the Gainesville campus for a period
of one or two quarters so that they could add their
special expertise to the program which Manning
worked so hard to build. It is'felt that a living
tribute such as this would be more appropriate than
any monument could be. The enhancement of the
University's program in government and public
administration would mean more to Manning and would
certainly have longer lasting effects.
I ask that you join me in participating in the fund
drive for a truly deserving cause. The total
amount to be raised is $150,000 and the University's
experts indicate that minimum contributions of

$1,000 will help us achieve that goal. Your check
may be made out to the University of Florida Founda-
tion and mailed to Mr. William K. Stone, Development
Director, University of Florida Foundation, Inc.,
Post Office Box 14425, Gainesville, Florida 32604.
I hope to be able to announce a successful conclusion
to this campaign during the Homecoming festivities
on October 17.
With kind regards,
