Abstract: Charles and Mary Lamb, in their collection "Tales From Shakespeare," utilize a lyrical, conversational tone to adapt Shakespeare's dramas into short stories deemed appropriate for young readers. Intending to create an introduction to Shakespeare, the Lambs blended their own description with Shakespeare's dialogue. This video is, in turn, itself an introduction to the Lambs' work, and is designed to highlight both the unique hybrid language of "Tales to Shakespeare" and the history of its illustration. The narration in this video, taken directly from the Lambs' adaptation of "The Tempest," represents about half of the Lambs' text for that story. The text and images of this video were taken from public-domain copies of Charles and Mary Lamb's "Tales From Shakespeare," and all of the images were taken from editions of this book found at the Baldwin Library of Historical Children's Literature. This video was produced as part of a children's culture studies seminar at UF and was made in compliance with Fair Use guidelines
