FLOYD HALL V.I.P. CENTER
An Adaptive Use Project
John L. Montgomery
Fall 1985
ARC 6853
PROJECT STATEMENT
The University of Florida has enjoyed a long history of national and
international scholastic recognition and has thus been a major draw to many
visiting lecturers, dignitaries, and professors. Accommodations for these
visitors have generally been unsatisfactory in quality and are spread out
over the campus. The purpose of the Floyd Hall VIP Center is to provide
high-quality accommodations and related services for visiting VIP as a new
response to this need. The central location of Floyd Hall in relationship
to further support facilities, such as the University Auditorium and General
Purpose Building B, plus its inherent historical importance, as one of the
original 13 campus buildings, presents an ideal location for this type of
facility.
The VIP Center is comprised of two distinct parts, one being oriented
toward the public functions of the building and the other part toward only
the VIP functions. The public part consists of a two story lobby integrating
a large, multi-purpose space with food catering capabilities, second floor
seminar rooms, and individual offices. This allows for easy public access
and a variety of public/VIP interactions ranging from large lectures or
dinners to individual conferences. A separate, keyed entrance and lobby
allows for private, controlled entry to the VIP accommodations. Three sizes
of living units provide for different lengths of stay for guests. Support
activities include maid and laundry services as well as a central VIP service
office for control of guest reservations and to provide for any special needs
of the visitors.
