Abstract:
On 26 February, a roundtable discussion with professors Kenneth Kidd, Stephanie Smith, Anja Ulanowitz, and Skurnick on “The State of the Art of Children’s and YA Literatures” begins at 1 PM, followed by a brief reception. Ms. Skurnick’s keynote speech begins at 3 PM. Smathers Library East, Room 1A. Lizzie Skurnick is the author of Shelf Discovery, a memoir of teen reading that Publishers Weekly called "Wildly entertaining." The former columnist for Jezebel.com’s Fine Lines and Shelf Pleasuring series on vintage novels, she's also the author of ten teen books in the Sweet Valley High, Love Stories and Alias series, and a contributor to the recent anthology "Scout, Atticus and Boo: 50 Years of 'To Kill a Mockingbird'". Skurnick is a former Vice-President of the board of the National Book Critics Circle. Her writing on books and culture has appeared in the New York Times, Bookforum, NPR, The Daily Beast, Politics Daily, O, Time magazine and many other publications. Her literary blog, Old Hag, is a Forbes Best of the Web pick. She lives in Jersey City.
