These conditions MUST be met. Simply to "save" is stupid.
We MUST PRO.U B.

The UPPER GLADES are a Ho-rn of Plenty. A vast area of its *
"weed" lands is ready NOW to farm.

peze, a handful of pioneers, at infinite cost to themselves
have now solved the chief problems, agricultural and' mechanical.

The era of experiment is past. Through actual, first-hand
experience on the ground, for five years, 'the writer KNOWS.

On these lands, TODAY, can be produced excellent corn, magnif-
icent sugar cane, poultry, hogs, beef cattle, dairy cows, and unlimited
feeds.

Now it is necessary but the "thrust in the/sickle, and reap..,
for the harvest...is ripe."

While millions perish, shall we loiter and temporize?

"What shall we do?" I submit two PRACTICAL PROPOSITIONS, cov-
ering, respectively, corn and cane.

I CORN-GROWIiNG
Corn-growing on this land has been tested, Results are fine.
The cost is low. Active corn-growing will not only relieve hunger
abroad, but will bring to us an elevator, bogs, cattle, population,
roads, great development, and then wealth and comfort.

1) COST;--Here are liberal figures;--For plowing new land,
seed, planting, cultivating and bringing to maturity, per acre, Six-
teen Dollars (116.00)

2) FINANCING THE CROP- /--
a) Advances:- -The above l16.00 must be paid in advance.
b) Expenses met from Receipts:--HusVing, hauling, ship-
ping, ?.nd marketing expenses can all be met out of receipts from sales
of crop. /

3)-* RETURNS:--Forty (40) bushels per acre, at $2.00 pt r bushel,
is a reasonable estimate of returns on new, weed land as ripe as Fruit-
crest.
4) PROPOSITION:--
a) On an acreage of Eighty Acres (80 as.), or less,
,I will be responsible for all the work, and will pay half the Sixteen
Dollars, (016.00i of advances, (f you will pay the other half (i8.00).

II. SUGAR-CANE GROWING
What cane will do is shown by enclosed literature. It is the
coming GREAT GLADES.CROP. Cane-growing costs something, the first
year. Thereafter, it costs little, and it means things unutterable,
Plant a small acreage if you cannot plant a larger one.
Here are two offers. Take your choice.
1) Offer No. 1:FARkING YOUR LAND:--We will handle your land,
plow it, furnish a&id plant seed, kill weeds, and 'take first crop, only; OR
2) Offer lio. 2:--FARMING OUR LAND:--You will handle our land,
plow it, furnish and plant seed, kill weeds, and take first crop, omly.
In each case, OWIIER controls second, and all subsequent crops.
(For mode of utilizingg cane, See Sugar literature above.)
Under Offer NO.1, your land must be in or near Fruitcrest (Sec.27)
or Okeelanta Addition, (sec. 35),both in T. 44, R. 36,(See plat enclosed),
and not taken by elder bushes. You will advance Fifty-Five Dollars
($55.00) per acre to cover cost of plowing, seed, planting, and weed-
killing, less any part of this which you may have already advanced. You
take as security, a mortgage on the first crop, and, out of this crop,
get back your tikFifty-Five Dollars (455.00) per acre, with six per
cent (6fo) interest, We take the remainder,.
If you have no land, you may buy in Fruitcrest. (Literature a.iil-
able).
Under Offer NO.2, you have, again, only to send the money (Fifty-
Five Dollars--455.CO--per acre, thus paying in full for the breaking,
seed, planting and weed-killing; and buying a full right to the whole
first crop. If desired, advances will be secured by real estate.
How can you win on Offer I0O.1; or how can we, on Offer 110.27 In
this way:--Wnile, ordinarily, in other cane-grow.ing states, the FIRST
CROP is all that any one gets--the cane, like corn, requiring to be

of subsequent crops to a trifling fi.g e-_,

Plowing alone, without cropping, helps Glades lands immensely.
The demand for plowing is usually far beyond the supply. With cash in
hand, the writer-has begged in vain to have lands plowed. So have
others. Corn- and Cane-growing should greatly intensify this demand.

306 0 St., N. W.,
Washington, D. C.
July 6,91923@
Harold J. Bryant, July 6, 192
The Wilderness, Kelmarsh,
Northamptonshire,
England.
Dear Mr. Bryant:

The contract holders of the Florida Everglades
Land Company in this city and vicinity, have grown very restless
about the impenetrable silence concerning the Gift Land, and we
held a meeting the result of Which is embodied in the inclosed
circular. This is sent, not to ask you for three dollars but
for your information because we think you interested to know what
we are minded to do if we can*

It may seem that the contract holders have been, and are
indifferent to the gift your Company made us so long ago, but that
is a great mistake, and it has fallen to me to assure you, in as
strong language as I can command, that we do aDpreciate your gift
to the uttermost; we feel that the commonest gratitude for the
spirit which prompted your action would induce us to treasure the
land,! now when the development of the Glades is being pushed in all
directions, and the possibilities ever greater than we dreamed, we
are more than ever minded to protest against the management which
absolutely ignores the contract holders. Unless we are able to do
something in the matter, the prospect of our losing the land is
very good. This is a shameful thing to come to pass, if we can
prevent it.

We are so scattered that it is very difficult to find the
people interested and time has completely changed the face of the
List of Buyers. Of course the land has passed out of your hands,
but I believe you are in syNathy with us, and would be impatient
to see it taken away from us, which is exactly what Mr. Chapman
and Mr. Austin mean to do.

If you can suggest anyone who can give me accurate ad-
dresses, or any way whereby I may come at this result, we shall ap-
preciate it. Any comment, advice, or criticism, any suggestion,
will be very welcome and confidential.

With the very best wishes

ill

Mr. Thomas E. Will,
Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Dear Mr. Will:

In February you wrote me that taxes had not

been paid on your holdings in Fruit Crest Association,

but that you hoped to pay soon. I was ready then to pay

the taxes due on the portion of that property belonging

to the Comin's Estate. I do not want these taxes to gq by

deaut, Kindly let me know now what taxes are due, and I

will send you the money.

Whict condition has the Fruit Crest property been

in this year? Is it covered with water? I saw a pineapple

recently raised on land in that immediate district. How is

your courage over that property? Are you having any sale

for it?

I am enclosing a stamped envelop for your reply, and

will be glad to hear from you soon.

your letter of the 30th ult. in the matter of Everglades roads.

Frankly, I do not know what is the present status regarding

the appointment of a o ssioner t2 succeed Mr. Harris, but

I understand that IMr. e-ie1ad of Sooth Bay, is the most likely

appointee. I wish you would wrie me by return mail whether

this party would be favorable to our proposition of Good Roads

and I will try and do a little more work, if it is not too late,

if I can possibly do so. Thanking you for your interest in

this matter, I am

Sincerely yours,

AGENTS FOR OF LANDS
MODEL LAND CO.
BOSTON LAND CO. PHONE No. 3016
THOMPSON & JACKSON REALTRS P.O. Box 885
PERRINE GRANT LAND CO. -
FLORIDA EAST COAST RAILWAY CO.
74 E. FLAGLER STREET
MIAMI, FLORIDA

July 10, 1923.

Mr. Thomas E. 7.ill,
Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Dear Sir :-

Further in reply to your favor of the fourth instant regarding
land wanted by John L. Whitmore. We enclose herewith plats
showing the land that has been reserved from sale by the Model
Land Company for a period of 90 days from June 21st. You will
note that I use the term, reserved from sale rather than
option for the reason that the Model Land Company did not
option this land to :.Ir. Whitmore, but, they did, in a letter
to him state that they had withdrawn the land from sale for a
period of 90 days from June 21st. and that within that.
period they would consider and take under adviiament ivr. -it-
more's application for the land owned by them and which they
had withdrawn from the market for the above stated period.

(We enclose herewith plates showing the land which they have
Withdrawn from the market.
There was no definite agreed price made to I.tr. Whitmore. They
stated in their letter to him, -owever, that the price would
range from $ 50.00 to $ 300.00 per acre and that if Mr. Whitmore
and his associates were in a position to buy the property at any
time within the 90 days that, no doubt, a price could be arrived
at that would be satisfactory to him.

In reference to the sand pit would say that the Model Land Com-
pany has taken the matter of purchase by Mr. Whitmore up with the
fOperating Department, but so far, have not heard from them as to
whether they are willing to sell the sand pit at this time or not.
Yours very truly,

Copy,- FPP SR& POTTER,

July 11, 1923.

Mr. Thomas Will,
Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

My dear Mr. Will,

I have been thinking about you all
frequently and intended to be with you before this,
but it seems to be doutful. Confidently, I have
had an offer for my business, entire, and I had
intended to get money enough to take care of me for
the rest of my dats but it hangs up, awfully slow,
and it requires me to be on hand to watch it. As
soon as they make of their minds, I will have them
close it up, and after that time I will c ome to
Florida and there spend most of my time.

It might come up in thirty days
or it might be six months. You can look out for
(me and my interests in Florida. I willsettle
somewhere in Miami.

The family'joins me in kindest
regards,

Your friend,

J. S. Tyree

:; Dear
Brother Thoius,-
In this manner we address each other
here in this Scientific Commune, the hind
nulie being dropped out of memory in _:;ny
of the sisters and some of the brothers.

As you mention, every department of thi
system has been assailed by the private get
rich combination, which is the HELL of all
brotherly love and uses for each other,in-
stead of uses being applied to self.

Adah and I hav had more happiness and
comfort here during our stay than we had
at any rerioid preceding.

Our letters from the Evereldcles are
not very dry ones, yet the drowned out hav
supreme confidence in the future, when the
drainage system is completed; they know as
you and I know, that the everglades where
our farus are situated, consists of the
most productive soil that can be found on
the whole surface of the earth. In fact
there is no combined tract of land anywher-
in the earth that wil compare with it.

Paradicial prolific pleasing plastic
present-purpose plans plainly presented
perhaps penetrate pliable perishable
people,previously prepared. Pat re-plies
"Yez take the veyy wurdz out'v me mouth"

I am watchinge the tax taking tii.;rs
that take the tax titles.??? 1Easy answer.

July 24, 1923. .

Mr. Thomas E. Will,
Fort Lauderdale,
Florida.

Dear Mr. Will:-
I received your two letterss from you yesterday in which you
asked me to write you four or five pages setting forth certain.
definite things and I wish to advise that I am at the present'time '
unable to give you the information you want. I wrote. the Railroad
Company explaining fully in regards to the land at Deerfield, -I sent
a copy of that letter to Peppe_&_Potter at Miami for their reference 1-1I
and I receivedfromthem a map showing the land which was reserved by-
the Railroad Company for me which compares with the map. you _ent and .
they stated that the property fronting the Dixey highway in Section 31
was owned by the Bostop & Florida Company and that they have been in
communication with them in regards to that tract and as yet have'not
been able to come to any definite understanding but that they would ..
advise me as soon as they could get some definite information. -
Regarding this, it was thoroughly_-nderstood in my conversation-.,with the.;
also with Long & Butler that thi .property was to be mad g~arteof the "
purchase and there was nojnition made of any sale having-been made ..
,. or any prospectivpur chasers for the same.ancTwhIT-r is ony a. -
C .[ guess, I am confident that ';t' held up this..Dixzey.Highbayjfrontage
and want to sell me the por.ion owned by the Railroad Company lying '::
."back and I do not consider it of any value to me in my project.
i:f, Therefore, I would not do anything in regards to the financing of these '
properties until I am advised by them as to the stalls of the DIey. -
.." Highwayfrontage. They have also advised me that they will give me -.
F' prices and map showing location of the property on the West_.Aide of
S the Railroad that I am interested in and I shall let this matter lay as .
Lit is until I receive.-information from them. You stated in your lette.':-.
that you do not want to waste time and indicated that you have some
other project in mind that might be interesting to you and I want you to .:
.-. thoroughly understand that since matters have developed regarding this
"- ~ land which makes the purchase very un-attractive to me,unless the -
Dixe3 highway frontage can be had in Section 31, that I would advise you '"
.Q- if there is something in sighTFTor you that you take it immediately
S. for it is very indefinite as to what may be the results in my deal.
You mentioned the track o uth of the Riyver, I would not be
i.. interested at all in this until.I have an opportunity to look it over
personally.. .- .
