Highway District, Miari, Florida, in reference to ditch
in the middle of section 35.

Facts as mentioned should warrant some action.

Nevertheless as others at 6keelanta no doubt,
are interested, thoughiprobably you would secure the
necessary co-operation for further petitions or signatures
supporting the one enclosed.

Dear Sir:-

As property owners in Section 35, Township 44
sonthk, R. 36 3. our land lyirn. next weat of center of
said aectuion, hnve tried to cultivate and crop seae, ard
have lost three crops from excess water on account of
omission of standard drainage ditch through center of
section 35, running north and south from Bolles Canal
north.

Our losses in actual amount apedt" has exceeded
IOuO.00 not mentioning amount that would have been
received froMI the sale of ouch crop.

We have stopned cultivation until we receive
assurance that our section ti properly taken care of,
o axe the other sections. While Kr. Elliot omitted this
ditch in his map, we are paying taxes for adequate drainage
and North New River Canal runs too near the east aide of
section 35 to afford relief to the land owners in the
middle of the section.

We therefore ask that this ditch be put through
aI soon as your ditcher moves north of the Bolles Canal,
Which we understand will be some tism this enrinR.

Our intention is to crop land when the proper
drainage has been furnished to this section.

We the undersigned, therefore ask that we be
advised as soon as possible what action will be taken
toward the cutting of this ditch.

grown-up" then I became a country school teacher,
later entering the practice of law.

For twenty years I have been active, pri-
vately and publicly, in the affairs. of Florida, four.
years of this time being a member of -the State Plant

Session of 1921, I was accorded the unusual hondr-of
being elected Speaker --my first and only.term.

copy of the same date to Senator Trammnell'nid appreciate
.fully the spirit in which these letters are written and
the effort you are making to cooperate with the Board in
these matters. The Board also appreciates your k:indiiess
in the matter. I do not know yet what v ll be the out-
come of this situation at this session of the legislature,
but there appears to be practically no opposition in
Bro9ard and Dade Counties, thoughi- considerable opposition
in Palm Eeach County. .je are trying to overcome this
opposition and I feel that if we should not be successful
in getting the Bill through at this session, we have paved
the way for it, and it will no doubt be enacted at the
next_ asssion. I think, however, it should be enacted by
all :.ieiis at this session and we are confidently hoping
for that result.

Hon. John B. Johnson will succeed me as Counsel for
the Boards on June 1st, when I will take up my duties as
a member of the Supreme Court.
