Everglades lands to you because I BELIEVE IN IT, because I BELIEVY
that, while it is now selling at $50, $60, and $80 an acre in ten-
acre tracts on easy monthly payments, it will be but a short time
until it will be worth $500 an acre. The reputation of the great
State of 'Florida and that State's great resources are behind the
drainage of the Everglades -- when drained they will be the GARDEN
SPOT OF THE WORLD and famous the world over, and those fortunate
enough to buy now, while the price is, comparatively speaking, on
the ground floor, will, indeed, take pride in their foresight and
judgment. The national -- I might almost may international --
reputation of one of the greatest drainage engineers is behind this
great reclamation project. Please investigate it. Above ALL thing@
get some of it NOW and reap the benefit of near-future values. In
my opinion, you cannot invest your money to better advantage anywhere
else in the country.

If you cannot work the land yourself, we can show you how it

-My dear Lawrence,
I hepe you arp having a good time with the folks. I am sure they
are delighted to sge you. Am wondering whether George is coming seen.
I arrived e.k.land have been hitting the eld pace ever since.
Yesterday, Max and I worked on Tract 41. I had noe ether helper, so I
dropped dasheens. However,I have engaged a darkey,Abe.Rebinson,to be-
gin to-merrow. About 1/5 of Tract 41 is done. he work on it wasb'gun
I'think,the day I left for Laud erdale,pril 22. Hence,abeot 3.5 as.in
2.5 weeks.
Am hoping that speed may be increased* Max suggests maybe you
can beat it. Possibly you had better try. The weeds on my old land
ar. becoming trees, almot;hence, diseing must begin seen,if at all this
year.

Tell Gertrude I mailed her letter to Mrs. Gray, with a 1 j. stamp
on it,in it.LaudPrdale-- a slip. I told Mr. Gray the night I came
wh;;t was in the l'tt'-r, and he said it would be all right.
Louise left Gertrude's Mill on the Plees" with me. She is a nice
little girl.
We arranged for the Griswelds-"hre. They obtained beds and break-
fasts at Tiltens and their othr-mealq at 1Methersbughs-- after quite an
effort en^my pqrt. I had hoped th y might get their meals at the MwCul
l1ughs;but found this to beimpracticable. e*, much porson-l *qua-
tioe ".
The Ga. are well pleased with whit they found and le rned here.
I know, though, that if we can E V E R get our muss cleaned- up and eur
town site looking less like the a'bndened farm of some dead-broke,help-
less widow, the effect on visitors will be improved*
Two questions bear pretty directly on this. ne is the above
rate of plowing. We bought the tractor March 25. Since then,we
have done some hauling and other chores, and plowed about 9.5 acres.
'1he other question is that of the baker poultry. Our lawn is an
absoltte, total wreck. It leoks far worse them anything else we have
-ver had sincP we planted St. ug.seme 5 years ago. The gate to the
chicken yard st nds wide open, and the chickens ream at will over our
premises -- except when I bombard them with bad dasheens. Th'3 lawn
leoks as the hogs had roet rd it up,snd were steadily on th% job. There
is a rumor that they may be prop erly confined-- some time". Mean-
while,my mind reverts to strychnnine.

routine with its eternal sameness and slow promotion. I am.offering
Everglades lands to you because I BELIEVE IN IT, because I BELIEVE
that, while it is now selling at $50, $60, and $80 an acre in ten-
acre tracts on easy monthly payments, it will be but a short time
until it will be worth $500 an acre. The reputation of the great
State of Florida and that State's great resources are behind the
drainage of the Everglades -- when drained they will be the GARDEN
SPOT OF THE WORLD' and famous the world over, and those fortunate
enough to buy now, while the price is, comparatively speaking, on
the ground floor, will, indeed, take pride in their foresight and
judgment. The national -- I might almost say international --
reputation of one of the greatest drainage engineers is behind 'this
great reclamation project. Please investigate it. Above ALL things
get some of it NOW and reap the benefit of near-future'values. In
my opinion, you cannot invest your money to better advantage anywhere
else in the country.

If you cannot work the land yourself, we can show you how it
can .be worked for you.

Make up a party, go down to the Everglades and see this won.-
derful country for yourself. Excursions run out of Washington twice
a month. You will return glad you went, glad you-'bught.

Come to one 3f our stereopticon lectures -- notice enclosed.
Make up a party among your friends and spend a pleasant, highly
profitable evening as our guests. Come and see our soil exhibits,
tropical fruits and plants -- take a sample of our soil exhibit
away with you, have it analyzed and prove to your own satisfaction
just what it is and will do. We show you this wonderful country with
the aid of magnificently colored slides, some of which were made
from photographs taken by an employee in the Government Printing
Office. All these things will convince you that HERE is your op-
portunity -- the one you have been looking for.

Ladies are particularly welcome at our laotures. We can refer
them to one of their number in the Forest Service, who returned from
a visit to the Everglades enthusiastic over her purchase of twenty
acres. She is urging her friends to buy.

We can help you to pay for your land come and let us explain

My dear old Friend:

G.A.Ifulett

Chicago, Illinois.
May 17th, 1920.

Mr. Thos. E. Will:-
Dear Friend:-
Your letter of the 10th, inst, received, in which
you enclosed receipts for money payments made todate covering
tract 41.
Enclosed please find my receipt for $50.00 which
you have placed to the credit of the land by issuing receipts to
each party for their proportion.

Glad to hear the dasheens are up on tracts 32-33-34,
and note what you say about the cane, Do you think the cane was
planted too late? Hope you will succeed in getting dasheens
planted complete on tract #41 as soon as possible, as it is V
getting rather late.
Did you ever make that shipment of dasheens to
Chicago, on which you wrote about last fall? Have inquired on /
So. Water St. (Our commission district) about same, but cannot
locate such a shipment as being received. How does the Chicago
market compare with your markets or the markets of New York?
Chicago dealers say they could develop a good market here, if
they could get them, but have been unable to get any. I understand
they sell for about 50 per lb., to the consumer. Are you
interested in a market here at this time. If so, probably I can
work up one for you. A
Mr. Perrin & wife are figuring on a visit about the
middle of next month, and I hope all crops will be coming on OK,
for their inspection. Expect he will take a number of pictures
which should create a stir on his return.
I appreciate your efforts, Mr. Will, and wish to
thank you for your prompt attention, so soon after getting your
car of dasheene off to market. Now that all plowing, etc, has
been completed on tracts 32-33-34, kindly issue the/necessary
receipts tocover money we deposited in the bank for this purpose.
This so as to complete our records. o
Have they cleared the Bollea Canal and started work on/
the new cross cut canals (See your letter of February 14th)? Did
they finish t-e road along the Bolles Canal to Okeelanta, and
beyond? I saw them working on this when onmy visit last October.

Continued:-

What kind of a crop did the Tilton's get on cabbage? /
Markets for cabbage along the coast, from reports, were very good.
Mr. Tilton and son were planting considerable acreage of cab'-age
when I was down there. Let me know how this crop was?

Also, how would Bermunda Onions grow in your territory,
when is the proper time for planting, and how much would the cost
of planting them be?

Will the owner of tract #41 (just purchased) accept
libertybonds to complete payments of the land, so as to close thisV
proposition?
I realize you are very busy, but if you can find time
to give. this information, wish you would, as I would like to have /
it for future business.
Hoping all is well with best regards from us all,
Yours truly,

c1809- North Fairfield Avenue.

Mr Thomas Will,

Okeelanta, Florida.

Dear Sir:

I am trespassing on your courtesy for information

concerning condition of some land near Pelican Bay, and opportunity to

secure help to place it under the Plow:

I have the following:

.Tract 28 Section 21 Township 42, Range 37.

Lot 12 Block 95, Okeelanta.

I expect to spend next winter in Florida, and plan to go down early

in the hope of being able to secure a place at West Palm Beach, or

Lake Worth, for my wife, my son, ( a Physician ) and myself for the

winter. Is anything being done at Okeelanta ? V

Some real estate parties at West Palm Beach tried to buy my tract

of 20 acres last year, offering $ 800.00, but I did not consider the

offer. I understand that the tract is drained and ready for the Plow.

Also that it is well located, and has a growth of Careless Weed, in

the larger portion, which is easy to turn under.

Any information which you may be able to give me will be

thankfully received. I have some property here which I expect to put

on the market, and thus have funds to improve my tra- near the Lake.

I understand that the growth of Cane is to be encouraged by men

who will go into the sugar business.

Outsiders can know but little about what is practicable.

Minneapolis is growing fast, and I will likely Keep my re idance

here for the present. Yours truly.

Dr. T. E. Will,

Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

My dear Dr. Will:

You. will be surprised to hear from me, but I tuast

will survive the shock. I still have 160 acres of sawgrass

muck on the edge of the Pelican Lake Drainage District, and

am much interest in the progress of the Glades. I don't know of

anyone who could give me more real information than you, so you

see I am taking advantage of your good nature. I know that you

will give me the facts whether they are pleasant or not, and not

merely a lot of jazz.

In your opinion has there been much progress for trie

glade lands south and east of the Lake in the two years since I

left? Do you feel that there is likely to be any general devel-

opement in the near future? Are you still convinced tmat the

sawgrass muck will prove productive over a long period after-#t

it is properly drained? Will the completion of the Stuart Canal

give fairly complete insurance from overflow, or are other large

canals necessary? Any other data that you can give me will be

much appreciated as I am a long ways off and almost entirely out

of touch with the glades.

I have recently fallen into one of the oest agricul- /

tOral jobs in Calif. and am still somewhat puzzled to know just

how I did it. It pays better than twice the salary that I came

to Calif. for two years ago, and gives me direct touch with many

of the biggest agr. men in the. State. I represent 70,0 00 fary /

Hoping that all is going well with you, and with kind-

1Mr. iThos. iM. wills,
okeelanta, F'la.

Dear Sir:

i am advised by Mr. Anthony, in whose
office i am employed, that you handle lands and
real estate and he advised me to write you about
the matter mentioned herein.

biy father owns ten acres of land in
the vicinity of jkeelatta and a building site in the /
town itself. ae bought this land years ago on one
of the first promotion schemes for that part of the
state. Si4ce that time his health has failed completely
and as we are a family of girls it is out of the question
for us to cultivate it, as he originally intended doing.
we would therefore like to dispose of it if we can find
a suitable market. am advised by persons who know
the value of land in that part of the state that land
around Ukeelanta is worth from one to two hundred
dollars per acre, depending on the location. This
is well located i believe, since it is only a short /
distance from the canal.

Mr. Anthony told me that you couldvell
it if any one could. if you would care to handle it
kindly so advise me and will furnish you a description
of it.

Yours very truly,

(iiss)
