Dear Ccrnialle Will:
Yours of the 29th. cn hand, also received a reply
from Mr.R.TcjrrL.i:-I.-on to day in which he stated they tried the tractor
out at Pahokee, which was delivered to Gill& P.7ulkner and that same
did fairly good work turning under 20' weeds, claiming conditions
the same as at Okeelanta. Plowing withtheir special model two-bottom
Everglade plow.

I have stated to you in a previous letter that I had an option
on a Oliver gang plow frok E.C.Hardware Co., but as yet have not
heard from them. T6ld them I would pay the balance when I care down.

In case I cannot get same from them can you borrow one from
the boys for me to be tried out when I come down, as I have just
written to I7r.Tomkinson that I wanted both plowing outfits have a
fair trial. They want $225.00 for Three Bottom Special McKay Disc
Plow, (one beam and discto be taken off for breaking nirwi land).

I told Mr.Tomkinson I would be down in W.P.B. on the 21st.and
not later than the 22nd. of July. Will that suit you?
I also asked him if I could come along with tractor with my outfit,
and on what Canal same would be shipped, as I would like to know
in timewhich will be the best way to saip my goods.
The date is final with meif it will suit you. In his last letter
he stated he will i-ra hi- mechanic over and give me a three 'y
trial and instructions.

Have you kerosene and anr on hand for sale in case they dort
bring any fuel along?

Yours truly,

Dr. Thomas E. Will,

Okeelanta, Fla.

Dear Dr. Will:

I regret that I cannot send more than the attached oheck

of $12.00 on my traot #71, but that's the best I can do just now.

The other day I had a letter from an acquaintance down in

Florida stating that a friend of his, who lived for a time at Moore-

*aven, moved away from there because of the fact that mosquitoes were

almost unbearable, that the drinking water was horrid, and that it

was very difficult to clear some of the land on account of the growth

of tussocks. I have never heard any of these complaints, except

that mosquitoes at times were very annoying. I have never heard of

tussocks and don't know what they are, unless it is the root of the

aawgrass, and I always understood these were easy to clear. I have

never heard any comment on the drinking water. What is there to

these objections?

I was very much interested to read your article of sometime

ago on the possibilities of dairying, That sounds very good. I see

a large ice cream factory in Jacksonville is advertising extensively

for cream, offering to pay good prices.

Yours very )rulyd,

GENERAL AGENT FOR THE 800 G. STREET, N. W.
COMPANY's LAND OURAY BUILDING

Dear Sir*-

You will be interested to know that the work of reclaiming the
Florida Everglades is advancing by leaps and bounds.

The Furst-Glark Construction Comr.any, a leader in its line, is
handling the work with extraordinary skill and vigor. Six great dredges are
working night and day, and several more are expected soon to begin.

Visitors, constantly coming to us from the 'Glades, are enthusias-
tic over the work-and the outlook for the investor and homeseeker. One sub-'
stantial business man declared at one of our meetings that the buyer is
"sure to win," and that "the only question is as to how much he will make."
The President of the State University of Florida visited us recently, and
testified to his faith in E'zergl.ue lands. Two men who have actually
crossed the 'Glades one, over twenty years ago, and the other, later -
have recently "alled, and stron-ly confirmed our statements regarding the
character of the lands and climate. Still others tell us that we understate
the facts, and that "the half has not been told."

Not long since, one caller bought of us ten acres, then twenty,\
then another ten, and started for Miami. After seeing the lands, he wrote
us for twenty acres more.

Everglade lands are going fast. Within a year, one tract of
4,000 acres, and another of 180,000 acres were sold; another of 46,000
acres is now almost gone, and thousands of acres from other tracts have also
been sold.

The prices have risen from $24 and $30 to $40 and $50 per acre.
Our fifty-dollar land is now almost gone, and buyers can afford to waste no
time unless willing to purchase at $60 and $80 per acre, at which figures,
also, we have lands to sell.

Our office is now at 809 G Street, N. W., in the Ouray Building,
one of the best office buildings in the city. We are cn the ground floor,
and have a fine window with scutl.ern exposure, in which are displayed choice
products from the 'Glades. Crowds stop, dLy and night, to inspect it. Our
lantern lectures, reinforced b:: nriew sli.-i, r'e given Tuesday, Thursday, and
Saturday nights, and are finely attended.

We shall be glad to welcome all our friends, old and new, to our
new headquarters. To those who have not yet bought we can present THE op-
portunity of a life-time; to those who have, we can outline one plan which
will-simplify their task of paying for their lands, and another, for obtain-
ing revenue therefrom.

Very truly yours, WASHINGTON OFFICE OF,

Lr. Thos. E. Jill,
Okeelanta, Fla.

Dear Lir. Will;-

We are delighted to know that your last beans at Fruitcrest are
looking so fine, and that you have been able to handle them at such a low
cost.

While -lr. Bollinger's first crop seems to have failed, I am in-
clined to think that the trouble was due more to the looseness of the soil
than the fact that it was sawgrass land. I believe that if the same land
had been simply moved off. and the grass dried and then burned and the soil
then stirred up with a disc harrow and perhaps rolled, that 1Ir. bolli.ger
would have had a splendid stand. It is possible, of course, that his land
may need lime, hiosphLate rock, hardwood ashes or a complete fertilizer.
I am endeavoring to make arraz~,e..ients now for a demonstration on sawgrass
land over near Gladecrest where we expect to try out several combinations.
In case you have an opportunity to do the same thing on a small scale near
Okeechobee, would certainly advise that you do so.

With best wishes, we are,

Yours very truly,

Helm & Walker,

By-

Dear Mr. Will;

I have refrained from intruding upon you dur-

of the disposal of Lot 27 Fruit Crest, held by Edw. 0.
Johnstone, Wash. D. C.

The writer is now in C'icsgo and would ask that
all communication relative to this mn-tter be addressed to
me here. I sincerely hope your efforts will meet with
success in the very nerr future, as Mr. Johnstone is in
dire straits, and feel sure that if you would send rart

Dear Sir:

What is the condition of Bollinger's one hundred acre tract
which he set out in castor beans last springs Do you think that
the soil is now sufficiently ripendd so that by replantirng it a
crop could be secured? Or has it all grown up to weeds to such
an extent that it would be necessary to replow it in order to
prepare it for planting any sort of crop.

Yours very truly,

Helm and Walker.

Dear Sir:

Do you happen to know what kind of work the Little Ben tractor
is doing over at Okeelanta or Gardena? Is it holding up well delivering
an honest day's work without frequent breakdowns?

I assume that it is necessary to put extensive rims on both
front and rear wheels- to keep it from sinking in the muck.

Would appreciate any information you may send me regarding/
this machine.

Yours very

T.E.W1il,
Okeelanta, Fla.
Dear Doctor;
You -will find enclose price list of parts to make a c.rd
car out of the Tractor. Someone there should be able to restore
the aar up there, little trouble and no difficult .'.rk.

It has taken all my time to get partially ca'i 'ht up with
the acc.,ul, ated correspondence. There was a terrible stack of it
when I got brsck to town.

I really hardly know what to say about trying to act as
sales agent for Okeelanta property. I certainly believe in che
proposition. The only question would be xtkxe whether I couId pose-
ibly find the time. There would probably be nothing in it incon-
sistent with my other duties. When I .Set really cle ned up in the
office I will consider the matter. Cannot as yet say what I could
do.

I am in no position just now to take the matt-r on but
Light be. Will have to see how things shape up here within the
nest week or so.

I have not even seen Ducane for you, but will w.tch for
hiA. tonight on the street and if I do not see him will iake a trip
out this place. I have simply been buried in office work, liter-
ally days, nights and u,-lays.

I will keep tiou with you.

Very tr ly yours

Dear Comrade Will:

Yours of the 9th.,also from Rl.Torlkinson received
to-day, in which he stated that the water was to low in V.P.B.canal.
Will ship tractor by freight to Lauderdale, and from there to Okeelanta
on ITN.River canal. I mailed deposit on July 12th.
I haven't tied myself to anything as yet.

Will leave here July 18th. and should arrive at Lauderdale Saturday
morning, as I had planned to express my outfits any way regardless
to W.P.B. people. I informed R.Tokz:;cn in te:.-r-.ds to.my ar.'ival
at Lauderdale last week and no doubt we will meet Satur.,hy, and come
up on the same boat.

Enclosed find letter and circular fion the John T'..-re iclow CO.,
of Baltimore. They do not want much for there outfit, can buy a
.el!eMr Tr-ia-tor for that price.

This letter may reach you before i get there.

Yours truly,

WEST PALM BEACH. FLA.

July 16th, 1918.

Thomas E. Will, Esq.
Okeelanta, Fla.

My dear Prof essor:-

I have heard from Mrs. Blome and at this time I
have a cheok which will need to be rewritten by her. The
figures say that it is for $82.80 while the writing says
Eighty and 80/100. She wrote it on July 4th and I rather
imagine that f they were celebrating on that day.

In her letter she said that she had written you and
I have been expecting every day to see your intellectual presence
in my office when I would show you the check and find out
what was necessary before I returned it for correction.

In the meantime if you ar'e not coming to the 'Beach
let me know what is the amount now due in order to get a deed.
Give me the items so that I can send them on to her with the
wrongly written check.

I noticed your letter in the paper explaining why
the people of Okeelanta did not come to West Palm Beach on the
fourth and I think it was entirely explanatory and I entirely
forgive you for failing to be here.

Yours with kind regards,

GGC:OM

July 17 1918,

Dr. Thos. E. Will, press ,
Fruitcrest Ass'n.,
Okeelanta, Fla.

Dear Sir:

You ho doubt, are already aware of what I am
about to write :cu,

I received a letLte ."rom you some months ago,
and which I do not have any record of having answered,
In this letter, you advised, that if I were al all
willing to sell my holdings, in the Association, that
you would do so for me.

I at the present time do not htink this a
very wise thing to do, and might say, that after some
reconsideration, decided to ke~g.th*se ho1ings, as
long as n.asible. Although you would greatly oblige me,
if you could advise when you expect to give the needs
for this property, which I trust will be sometime in the
near future,

Thanking you for your attention to this matter,
and trusting that this letter finds you and the fui:ly
in the best of health, I hope to remain

Yours sincerely,
/ .. ;^'1;^--^------* I
