The Bahamas, a British colony at the time broadcasting was introduced, developed a system that reflected the goals of the British Empire and expressed the British and expressed the British imperial ideology. The country did not become a nation state until 1973. In the post-independence period, broadcasting emphasized the goals of the new nation state--national development.
